Anwendung
Eine Schleifmaschine, oft abgekürzt als Schleifmaschine, ist eine Werkzeugmaschine zum Schleifen, einer Bearbeitungsart, bei der eine Schleifscheibe als Schneidwerkzeug verwendet wird. Jedes Schleifkorn auf der Scheibenoberfläche schneidet durch Scherverformung einen kleinen Span aus dem Werkstück.
Schleifen dient der Endbearbeitung von Werkstücken, die eine hohe Oberflächengüte (z. B. geringe Oberflächenrauheit) und eine hohe Form- und Maßgenauigkeit aufweisen müssen. Da die Maßgenauigkeit beim Schleifen in der Größenordnung von 0,000025 mm liegt, handelt es sich bei den meisten Anwendungen eher um einen Endbearbeitungsvorgang, bei dem vergleichsweise wenig Metall abgetragen wird, etwa 0,25 bis 0,50 mm Tiefe. Allerdings gibt es einige Schruppanwendungen, bei denen beim Schleifen recht schnell große Metallmengen abgetragen werden. Das Schleifen ist also ein vielfältiges Feld.
